New Mexico Dance Project is a contemporary dance company based in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Founded in 2019 by husband and wife team Scarlett Wynne and Erik Sampson, NMDP produces original concert works, performance installations, and short films that focus on capturing the imagination and inspiring curiosity. Impressions of a Home Lost
UNPAVED is an original work choreographed by New Mexico Dance Project with music and lighting design by local collaborators Spencer Olsen and Jon Haas. UNPAVED explores the emotional and physical response connected to no longer having a home. Motivated by global displacement and individual abandonment, the 20 minute length work portrays two figures wandering without a clear point of reference. New Mexico Dance Project desires for UNPAVED to encourage questioning and reminiscing of our personal connection to home and the reasoning behind its significance.

“The body produces a sense of intrigue…
There is a natural curiosity about the body. To see what it can do and what it can speak without language. The gestures, the postures, it’s all incredibly identifiable. To me, it’s the most basic form of communication.”
